Roadside repair

The KR200 from Messerschmitt is a somewhat rare sight on American roads. Its unique inline seating borrowed from the aircraft industry from which it evolved makes it a unique experience for anyone who is lucky enough to get a ride in one.

Its single cylinder motor however, while reliable, suffers from the age and technology limitations of the time.

This was a Gunze Sangyo kit in 1/24 scale. it was made as a multimedia kit consisting of the traditional plastics but also including photo etch, simulated leather, white metal, rubber and nickel wire. Its a challenging kit to sat eh least and really pushed my skill limits but in the end i was happy with the results as I go on my model building journey.

In addition to the kit I designed and printed a fuel tank and spare tire missing from the kit as well as a suitcase and hat to tell the story of someone who is braving a road trip with a open toped vintage three wheeler. I also scratch built much of the interior using traditional Evergreen styrene rod for the seat piping and various other sizes of styrene for the interior sidewalls, map pockets etc. I finished it off with a patina paint job to show the wear and miles it has had put on it.

After the kit was compete I designed and printed a 3d base to finish the scene off and created a little road side repair vignette with a shoulder and a guard rail and a tool roll i also designed and printed to help tell the story of adventure and more importantly the independence someone gets with being able to fix what breaks down. I finished the 3d printed base off with a Messerschmitt logo.
